Third Annual Global Educators Conference

The Global Educators Conference features experts from national and international educational organizations, content specialists from Seton Hall’s College of Arts and Sciences, The Whitehead School of Diplomacy and International Relations, and the College of Education and Human Services.

Broad focus areas include economic, political and social challenges faced in Northern Africa, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and the impact of globalization. Small group sessions will focus on strategies to bring global knowledge and skills into grades 5-12 classrooms.

Break-Out Workshops - How to Bring Global Issues to Your Community 

  • Human Development on the Arabian Peninsula
    Presenters: Ambassador S. Azmat Hassan and Prof. Greer Burroughs
    The focus of this workshop is the underdevelopment of human resources, particularly women, and the impact this has had on the Arab world.  U.S. relations and interests in Saudia Arabia will be explored in the context of this issue.

  • Building Communities and Homes Abroad
    Presenters: Dr. Roseanne Mirabella and Maribel Roman
    This workshop will build on your experiences with nonprofit organizations to gain an understanding of the critical role nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) play in developing civil societies. Learn the role of civil society in promoting human rights and how civil society, through NGOs work to address human rights issues.

  • Deliberating in Democracy Project
    Presenters:  Denis Williams and Dr. William McCartan
    A presentation of the “Structured Academic Controversy” methodology used to teach students domestically and abroad the skills of deliberation will be offered in this workshop.

  • Challenges in the Developing World and the Role the U.S. Should Play
    Presenters: Dr. Amadu Jacky Kaba and Prof. Greer Burroughs
    This workshop explores challenges common to developing countries and issues surrounding foreign aid by studying the West African nation of Niger.  Specific attention will be paid to the lack of educational opportunities, particularly for females and the impact of this on society.
  • Tools of Diplomacy in Dealing with International Conflicts
    Presenters: Dr. Jacques Koko, George Burroughs, Esq. & Nini Bitsadze
    This workshop explores the options the U.S. has during an international crises through a case study analysis of the current Georgian-Russian war.
